NEWTON, MA -- Pratt Institute men's volleyball team produced a tri-match split, defeating Dean College before falling to host Mount Ida, Saturday afternoon. The Cannoneers improved their overall record to 3-1.
Match 1 | Pratt 3, Dean College 0: David Cutler recorded 11 kills on 17 attempts, registering an impressive .588 hitting percentage, while collecting 14 assists and four service aces as Pratt swept the Bulldogs 25-23, 25-23, 25-21. Kristopher Patton led all players with 16 digs, while Dean Liaw and Haven Gordon each tallied seven kills for the Cannoneers who limited Dean College to a -.034 attack.
After taking the first set, the Cannoneers trailed 23-21 in the second. However, consecutive kills from Cutler rallied Pratt to collect the final four points and take the set, 25-23.
For the Bulldogs, Moussa Seck led the way with seven kills, while Justin Freitas notched 15 digs and five kills, as Dean College fell to 2-6 overall.
Match 2 | Pratt 0, Mount Ida 3: The Mustangs outhit the Cannoneers, .360 to .050, and totaled 38 kills as they swept Pratt 25-8, 25-18, 25-19.
Dean Liaw and Haven Gordon again led the attack, adding five kills apiece. David Cutler dished out 11 assists and three service aces as Pratt saw their winning streak end at three matches.
Brett Soutworth led the mustangs with 12 kills on 20 attempts, yielding a .500 hitting percentage, while teammates Nate Sprengle (32 assists) and Peter Griffenkranz (9 digs) helped Mount Ida sweep the tri-match.
Pratt returns to action next Thursday for their home opener, a 7:30 pm contest against New Jersey City University at the Pratt ARC.
