Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Pratt overwhelms Yeshiva, 3-0

BROOKLYN, NY – The Pratt Institute women's volleyball team put together their best performance of the season, toppling the Maccabees of Yeshiva in three sets (25-9, 25-12, 25-22) to claim their fourth straight win of the season.

Senior setter Abby Nagy set the tone from the start – registering six service aces as Pratt opened up a commanding 13-0 lead. Following a setting error by Yeshiva, the Cannoneers continued their aggressive offense attack as kills by Emelen Mikelic and Julia Kubak stretched the lead to 17-1. After a string of attacking errors allowed the Maccabees to make the score 21-9, Marlena Todd and Oliver Buika each tallied two kills apiece as Pratt took the first set 25-9.

Set number two saw a competitive back-and-forth between both sides. With Pratt leading 10-8, it would be the service game that created separation. Starting with a Julia Kubak ace, the Cannoneers would run off 11 consecutive points, highlighted by a pair of Marlena Todd kills and three additional aces from libero Hannah Lee. The home side would put the set away following another Mikelic kill, as Pratt rolled 25-12.

The Cannoneers would begin the third set strong as kills by Todd and Cori Glidden opened up an early Pratt lead. Following a kill by Anna Elisse Uy that made the score 9-5 in favor of Pratt, the Maccabees would find a rhythm, eventually trimming the Cannoneer lead to 15-14 before another set of Kubak aces essentially put the game out of reach. Mikelic's 11th kill would finish off Yeshiva, 25-22

For the match, Pratt attacked at a .241 percentage, while limiting Yeshiva to -.038. Marlena Todd set a career-high with 15 kills, while Julia Kubak totaled a season-high five aces. Senior setter Abby Nagy concluded her night by notching 26 assists, second best for her career, while her six aces were a personal best.

Following the match, coach Louis Sepulveda addressed his senior's play.

"Abby did a good job passing tonight, as evident with 26 assists. She spread the ball nicely to both our two outside hitters and our middles, who collectively hit around .400 for the match, and her service game was sharp."

As for the 20 ace output for the Cannoneers, the coach wasn't surprised.

"We work on our service game every week in practice," added Sepulveda. "We know our game plan is to serve tough and pass and by doing that, it gets the opposing team out of their system. Heading into a tough conference stretch, I'm confident in this squad's ability to keep it going."

Up Next: The Cannoneers travel to Hyde Park, NY for an HVIAC conference match against the Culinary Institute of America on Sunday morning. First serve is 11:00 am.
