BROOKLYN – After dropping the opening set, the Pratt Institute men's volleyball team rallied to win the next three games and defeat Yeshiva University 3-1 (17-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-23) in non-conference action at the ARC.
CANNONEER HIGHLIGHTS AND MATCH NOTES
- Dean Liaw led Pratt with 20 kills and tied a career-high with 13 digs
- Albi Marke set personal bests in kills (14) and digs (14)
- Kristopher Patton set a new personal-best in assists for the third consecutive game – totaling 33
- First-year head coach Louis Sepulveda was victorious in his home debut
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET ONE (25-17 Yeshiva)
- Back-to-back Liaw kills gave Pratt an early 6-2 lead
- Trailing 10-8, Yeshiva would capitalize off of the Cannoneers hitting errors to score the next seven points
- Marke's kill would close the gap to 17-13 but they would get no closer, allowing yeshiva to close out the first set
SET TWO (25-21 PRATT)
- Trailing 6-5, Ben Kim would serve Pratt seven straight points – building a 12-6 advantage
- The Maccabees would rally to tie the score at 13-13
- Leading by two, 20-18, Liaw would record two straight kills, forcing a Yeshiva timeout
- Up 23-21, Marke's kill, coupled with a Yeshiva hitting error, helped Pratt tied the score at 1-1
SET THREE (25-23 PRATT)
- Seven lead changes highlighted the start of the third set
- Tied at 13-13, Pratt would score five consecutive points – highlighted by an Albi Marke ace
- Facing set point, the Maccabees would score four straight points, making the score 24-23, while forcing Pratt to take a timeout
- Kristopher Patton would set up Marke for the deciding point as Pratt extended their lead to 2-1
SET FOUR (25-23 PRATT)
- Pratt would struggle in the fourth game and trail 8-0 early on
- Down 10-5, Ben Kim's only kill of the match ignited the Cannoneers, who would go on a 10-5 to tie the game at 15 apiece.
- Dean Liaw's 20th kill – coupled a pair of Yeshiva attacking errors – got Pratt to match point, 24-20
- Despite a late Yeshiva rally, Pratt would close out the final set, 25-23, moving them to 2-3 overall on the season
