BROOKLYN – The Pratt Institute Cannoneers downed the Webbies of Webb Institute in straight sets (25-21, 25-23, 25-14) on Thursday evening in the ARC.
Pratt was paced offensively by Dean Liaw's match-high 12 kills. Setter Kristopher Patton tallied 15 assists, and libero Ye Hu Hwang posted a career-best 16 digs.
Trailing 4-3 in the opening game, the Cannoneers would build a commanding lead following four straight hitting errors by the visitors. Webb would eventually cut the Pratt advantage to two, 23-21, but a Dean Liaw kill gave Louis Sepulveda's side the 1-0 lead.
As game two unfolded, neither team was able to gain any separation. Leading 17-16, a tandem block by Graham Rose and Ben Kim highlighted an important 3-0 run that gave Pratt some breathing room. A pair of aces allowed Webb to tie the game at 23-23, but consecutive hitting errors gave the Cannoneers the game.
Uddhav Kedia registered three straight services aces as Pratt built an early 10-5 lead in the third game. After Webb took the next two points, the Cannoneers would orchestrate a 10-2 run, highlighted by Hamza Hamdeh's kill. Kills by Patton and Liaw would close out the Webbies, 25-14, as the Cannoneers improved to 5-7 on the season.
