Cannoneers fall to Cooper Union in five sets

BROOKLYN – The Pratt Institute Cannoneers concluded their 2018 season with a heartbreaking five-set loss to the Cooper Union Hawks on Thursday evening in the ARC.

The result brings the Cannoneers final record to 7-8 overall.

Dean Liaw's 20 kills led all players, and his 29 digs set a new personal record. For the season, the sophomore recorded 194 kills and tallied 142 defensive scoops.

Kristopher Patton posted a double-double of 27 assists and 12 digs for the Cannoneers. Patton also hit for six service aces – a career-high.

Libero Ye Hu Hwang capped off his inaugural collegiate campaign by notching a season-high 19 digs in defeat.

After taking the first two sets – including an impressive 25-14 win in game two – the Cannoneers led Cooper 24-22 in game three as they looked to close out the match. However, the Hawks would rally and ultimately take the game 28-26.

Stunned by the turn of events, Pratt struggled in the fourth set, a 25-9 Cooper Union triumph. In the fifth and deciding set, a pair of Liaw kills, coupled with three aces from Uddhav Kedia kept Pratt in the game. Even so, Cooper Union never trailed and took the deciding set 15-9.
