Women's Basketball Defeated by Central Penn, 71-42

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - January 13, 2019 - The Pratt Institute women's basketball team returned to their home court on Sunday afternoon, as the Cannoneers fell to Central Penn College, 71-42 in the Pratt ARC.

The Cannoneers, now 4-6 on the year, shot 16-for-62 (25.8%) over 40 minutes of play, while the Knights, improved to 6-10 on the year, while shooting 30-for-56 (53.6%).

Senior forward Amissa Epperson (Jersey City, N.J.) led Pratt with a 16 points to go along with seven boards, while classmate Idalia Kaplan (Seattle, Wash.) finished with 11 points. Additionally, Emily Guerra (Babylon, N.Y.) hauled in 10 rebounds, and a team-high four assists and three steals. For Central Penn, sophomore Ja'Lynn Burton-Jones led all players with 44 points and 11 rebounds, as she shot an efficient 19-25 (76%) from the field.

The visitors jumped out to an early 11-1 lead before Epperson made a layup at 5:46 in the first quarter to give Pratt its first field goal. The Knights would continue to extend their lead, ending the opening period leading 24-8. Central Penn had five assists on their ten baskets in the opening period.

Entering the second quarter, Kaplan knocked down a jumper to make it 24-10 on the Cannoneers' first posession, before a Burton-Jones layup made it 26-10, Central Penn, with 9:30 to play in the frame. After free throws from first-year guard, Kinako Miyake (San Mateo, C.A.), made it a 12-point game, 28-16 with 6:53 remaining, Central Penn finished the half on a 15-6 run, sending the visitors into the locker room up 43-22.

The Cannoneers continued to battle in the 2nd half, highlighted by a 6-0 run from 4:40 to 3:42, that included two baskets from Epperson to cut the Pratt deficit to 54-32. In the third quarter, Epperson scored eight of Pratt's 12 points.

Kaplan would drill a three-pointer eight seconds into the fourth quarter to bring Pratt within 21, 58-37 but Central Penn would close out the game on a 13-5 run, 71-42.

Next Up: Pratt Institute will travel to the College of New Rochelle on Tuesday, January 15 for a 6:00 PM tip-off.
