Women's Basketball's Comeback Bid Falls Just Short vs Berkeley

Brooklyn, NY - The Pratt Institute's women's basketball team (1-1) nearly erased a double-digit deficit in the second half before falling to Berkeley College, 58-53 on Wednesday evening.

Beverlee Caraway (Pryor, OK) led the way for the Cannoneers with 18 points on 4-7 from three-point range and five rebounds. Emily Guerra (Babylon, NY) notched her first double-double of the season, pouring in 11 points while grabbing 16 rebounds. Sophie Bischoff (Durham, NC) scored six points, grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked three shots.

Pratt started strong out of the gate, scoring 13 of the first 17 points to open up an early nine point lead. The Cannoneers' lead grew to as many as 14 in the first quarter before taking a 22-14 lead into the second period.

The second quarter was controlled by Berkeley as it used an 8-0 run over the first three minutes to take its first lead of the game at 24-22. Pratt outscored Berkeley by two over the final four minutes as the game went into halftime tied at 28.

The third quarter went to Berkeley as they outscored the Cannoneers 19-6 to take a 47-34 lead into the final 10 minutes.

Trailing 52-38 with 7:57 remaining, Caraway took over, scoring the next eight points to get Pratt within 52-46. The Cannoneers continued to claw its way back as Caraway knocked down a three pointer with 1:10 remaining to get within 55-53. Despite cutting the deficit to two, Pratt was unable to score in the final minute before dropping the contest by five.

The Cannoneers held Berkeley to just 29.9% shooting from the floor while forcing 22 turnovers.

Pratt returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Wentworth Institute at 2:30 pn.
