An inside finish from senior guard Bubby Vernon (Boulder, Col.) at the 15:57 mark of the first half allowed the Cannoneers to gain a 10-4 edge, but the Sound would erupt for a 26-8 burst over the next five-plus minutes to gain a 12-point cushion at 30-18. Millikan delivered a triple with 3:41 remaining in the opening stanza to make it 42-35, only to have the hosts respond back with an 8-1 run to end the half, 50-36.
Five Towns would push their lead to 17 in the opening minute of the second half only to have Pratt erupt for a 25-8 surge over the next nine-minutes to even the score at 61-61. An offensive rebound and layup from Philip at the 9:14 mark would give Pratt a three point lead, 64-61. At 6:36, Levine would finish in the paint to keep the Cannoneers ahead, 72-68.
The Sound responded with 13-1 run of their own in four-plus-minutes, and regained a large lead, 81-73, with 2:00 minutes left in the game. Millikan nailed a three off an assist from Philip to cut the deficit to 81-76 but that would be the last points for Pratt as the hosts made five of their final six free throws to seal the game, 86-76.
The Cannoneers will return to the hardwood in November 2019.
