KEUKA PARK, N.Y. - March 2, 2019 - Despite six kills from junior Justin Tiglao (New York, N.Y.), the Pratt Institute men's volleyball team fell in three sets (25-5, 25-12, 25-8) in the opening match of the Keuka Men's Volleyball Invite to the hosts on Saturday afternoon.
Tiglao finished with six kills and four digs while classmate Hamza Hamdeh (New York, N.Y.) added two kills, and a dig. Setter Kris Patton (Holbrook, N.Y.) dished out a team-high seven assists, as well as one kill, one ace, and a dig. Libero Ye Hu Hwang chipped in with an assist, a dig, and two aces in the losing effort.
Keuka opened up fast, leading 10-1, forcing Pratt to call a timeout, and the hosts continued to pour it on, taking a 14-2 lead before the Cannoneers strung together consecutive points, making it 14-4. The Wolves closed the frame with a 11-1 rally, featuring three aces from Robert Blouin to win the first set.
The second set began with back and forth action, as there were seven ties and four lead changes in the early goings, including Pratt holding an 8-7 advantage following a kill from TIglao. Keuka would string together a 4-0 run, capitalizing off of Cannoneer attack errors, to secure a 13-9 lead. After a timeout, the Wolves cruised to a 25-12 victory behind three kills from JJ Zwicklbauer in the period.
The Wolves continued to dominate as they took a 15-2 lead before Tiglao and David Valentine (Philadelphia, P.A.) combined for a block. The Cannoneers never got closer than 12 points, eventually dropping the final set, 25-8 on a kill from Zwicklbauer.
Up Next: Pratt will be on the road again, as they visit Purchase College on Friday, March 8. The match is scheduled to start at 8:00 PM.
