BROOKLYN, NY– The Pratt Institute's women's soccer team (1-0) used three first half goals to roll to a season opening victory, 4-2 over Fisher College on Saturday afternoon.
The Cannoneers struck early in the first half as
Lily Gaunt (Wethersfield, CT/Wethersfield) put home her first goal of the season at the 5:28 mark. Not even two minutes later,
Maralina Moore (Barre, Vt./Montpelier) knocked home the second goal of the game off a cross from
Min Oliveri (Lynnfield, Ma./Norwich Free Academy) to give Pratt a 2-0 advantage.
With just under two minutes remaining in the first half,
Daniela de Pontes (Lisbon, Portugal/St Julian's) connected for her first collegiate goal off a corner kick from
Brittany Lovegrove (Sandy, UT/Hillcrest) to give Pratt a 3-0 halftime lead.
In the second half, Fisher scored back-to-back goals over an 11 minute span to cut the lead to 3-2 with eight minutes remaining in regulation. However, with 2:40 to go, Lovegrove launched a goal from 25 yards out, her first of the season to up the lead to 4-2.
In net,
Carly Klein earned her first career win, recording two saves. As a team, the Cannoneers recorded 20 shots with 11 being on goal.
The Cannoneers return to action on Sunday when it hosts SUNY Cobleskill at Aviator Sports Complex at 2 pm.
