BRONXVILLE, NY - The Pratt Institute's women's volleyball team (5-4, 0-0 HVIAC) downed Sarah Lawrence and NJCU in a road tri-match to earn its third and fourth straight wins on Saturday afternoon.
In the opening match against host Sarah Lawrence, the Cannoneers rolled to a four set win, 17-25, 25-18, 27-25, 25-15.
Paola Beniquez (Carolina, Puerto Rico) led the way with 21 digs and 11 kills.
Avery Toomes (Houston, Tx.) added a match high 21 assists while
Elizabeth Hannah (Tampa, Fl.) added six aces and three blocks.
Following a first set win by Sarah Lawrence, the Cannoneers roared back to win the next two.
In the fourth set, Sarah Lawrence led by as many as eight but the Cannoneers used a 10-3 run to get within 22-21. Trailing by two on match point, Pratt rolled off five of the final six points to win the set 27-25 and take a 2-1 advantage.
The fifth set was dominated by the Cannoneers, leading wire to wire and by as many as 10, winning the set 25-15 and the match 3-1.
The Cannoneers continued the momentum into the second match of the day, rolling through NJCU, 25-12, 25-16, 25-16. Toomes paced the way with 15 assists and four aces. Beniquez added 11 digs and seven service aces in the win.
Pratt finished the match with 40 kills, 36 digs, 36 assists and 14 service aces. The 14 aces were a season high for a three-set match.
The Cannoneers look to make it five in a row on Friday when it travels to USMMA on Friday for a 7:30 pm start.
