PURCHASE, NY - The Pratt Institute's women's basketball team (1-1) slipped past Purchase College for its first win of the season, 58-53 on Saturday afternoon.
Katy O'Connor dominated from the get-go for the Cannoneers, finishing with a career high 28 points and 28 rebounds. Â The 28 rebounds are the most in a game by a Cannoneer in program history.
Natalie Graf added 11 points and 5 rebounds while
Sophie Bischoff added 8 points and 12 rebounds.
Pratt started the game quickly as it led by 10 after the first quarter. Â Pratt's lead grew to as many as 14 in the first half as the Cannoneers took a 34-20 lead into halftime.
Despite leading by as many as 17 in the second half, Pratt could not hold the lead as Purchase took its first lead since the first quarter, 52-51 with just under five minutes remaining in regulation. Â The Cannoneers defense was relentless in the final five minutes, holding Purchase to just two points. Â Pratt scored the final seven points of the game en route to the five-point win.
As a team, Pratt out rebounded Purchase 69-33 including 32 offensive rebounds.
Pratt returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts Saint Elizabeth University at 8:15 pm.
