BROOKLYN, NY - The Pratt Institute's women's soccer team (0-0-1) played to a 1-1 draw in its season opener against St. Joseph's Brooklyn on Friday night.
With just under 13 minutes remaining in the first half,
Grace Florence (Worthington, OH) put home her first career goal off an assist from
Kayla Galvan to give the Cannoneers a 1-0 lead.
The Cannoneers defense was stellar in the first half, holding the Bears to just four shots on goal.
Pratt continued its strong play into the second half, however, with 23 minutes remaining in regulation, Mia Castaneda put home her first goal of the season for St. Joseph's Brooklyn to tie the game at one.
Both teams went back and forth in overtime, but neither were able to put home the game winning goal as the score ended in a 1-1 tie.
Pratt finished the match with 12 shots including nine on goal.
Casey O'Connor (Tupper Lake, NY) had four saves in net in the first half while
Savannah DePaz (Chapel Hill, NC) added seven stops in the second half.
Pratt returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Mt. St. Vincent for a 5 pm start.
