CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. – Despite a late equalizer from Kaila Rodriguez, the Pratt Institute women's soccer team suffered a 3-2 defeat after an 89th-minute goal from Clarks Summit University on Wednesday afternoon.
The loss snaps a two-game streak for the Cannoneers who fall to 7-4 overall while the Lady Defenders improve to 3-6-3 and take the first meeting between the squads.
Pratt held an early lead courtesy of a Siena Sujitno goal in the 15th minute. Katherine Thomsen's throughball sent her on goal with the keeper. After her initial shot was stopped, she punched the rebound back in for the lone tally of the first half.
The hosts scored a pair of goals in the 54th and 68th minutes to take a 2-1 lead.Â
Despite facing a 27-16 shot disadvantage and 8-0 corner kick discrepancy for the contest, Pratt found the equalizer in the 89th minute when Thomsen slid a ball across to the right side of the box to Rodriguez who took a one-touch shot that found the upper right 90.
But CSU would respond quickly and a failed clear on a ball sent into the box left Davi Ort on the doorstep for the go-ahead goal with half a minute remaining in regulation.
The NCAA leader in goals and points, Thomsen saw her goal-scoring streak halted at five games, but finished with two assists.
Sujitno logged her ninth goal of the season while Rodriguez tallied her second of the season. Emma Gaspari finished with nine saves in a losing effort.
Pratt hosts William Paterson University on Monday, October 17th at Randall's Island Field 10 with a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
