BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Sophomore Cameron Hatcher scored 19 points and the Pratt Institute men's basketball team held a three-loss Mitchell College team to their second-lowest scoring output of the season, but the Cannoneers fell on the wrong end of a 65-52 decision at home at the Activity Resource Center on Wednesday evening.
In addition to his team-high 19, Hatcher also grabbed seven boards. Junior Daniel Golub joined Hatcher in double figures with 11 to go along with four boards and two assists. Junior Ace Bibbs added nine points and four caroms.
Mitchell's (14-3) Alfonzo Stokes led all scorers with 21 and six boards. Jalen Benson registered a 12-point, 11-rebound double-double and Mikey Buscetto added 12 points and eight dimes.
The Mariners used a 7-0 spurt over a minute to open a double-digit lead, 20-13, at the 11:38 mark of the first. After expanding their lead to 15, Pratt assembled a 9-0 run over two minutes powered by five from Hatcher to pull within six and trailed 34-26 headed into the lockers.
The visitors from the Constitution State opened a 12-point cushion six minutes into the second stanza before the Cannoneers scored seven straight to claw within five, 42-37. Pratt hung tough with Mitchell keeping within single digits and still trailed by five again on a Golub trifecta with 6:27 to play but couldn't fully bridge the gap.
Pratt limited Mitchell – who averaged 79 points entering the game – to 65 points, their lowest tally in a win, and also held them a season second-worst 36 percent shooting (25-of-69).
The Cannoneers have a week off before wrapping up a three-game home stand on Thursday, February 2, welcoming the College of Mount Saint Vincent to the ARC for a 7 p.m. showdown.
