OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – Behind four goals from Siena Sujitno, the Pratt Institute women's soccer team overcame two separate two-goal, second-half deficits to defeat SUNY College at Old Westbury, 6-5, on Sunday afternoon moving back to level.500 at 4-4.
Old Westbury (5-8) scored the first in the 25th minute and both squads traded tallies with Sujitno responding in the 28th minute and Alyse Then netting her second of the game in the 38th minute to give the hosts a 2-1 lead headed into the locker rooms.
The Panthers scored five minutes into the second stanza to build a 3-1 deficit before Kat Thomsen finished a feed from Ava Hunwick less than three minutes later to pull the black-and-gold back within one.
OW crept ahead by two again with goal in the 57th minute, but the Cannoneers remained step-for-step as Sujitno responded than 30 seconds later to cut the deficit again to 4-3. Sujitno struck again in the 66th and 69th minutes to give Pratt their first lead and Thomsen recorded her brace in the 77th minute as the Cannoneers scored four unanswered to remain on top for good.
Thomsen's insurance goal would stand as the game-winner as Then scored in the 78th minute to bring a one-goal game for the final 12 minutes but the Pratt defense allowed just one shot to preserve the victory.
Hunwick would finish with a pair of assists and Emma Pratt also added a helper as both fired four shots. Pratt maintained a 27-18 edge in shots. Emma Gaspari made 10 saves in goal for the victory.
Pratt returns home to host Five Towns College at Randall's Island Field 70 on Thursday, October 12 kicking off at 4 p.m.
