BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Behind a four-goal outburst from Griffin Benkovszky, the Pratt Institute men's soccer team defeated borough foes Medgar Evers College, 7-2, on Monday afternoon at Aviator Field for their first win of the season.
Benkovszky opened the scoring with a goal in the eighth minute as Pratt (1-5-1) would open a 5-0 lead by halftime. Paxton Lyman scored three minutes later with his first collegiate tally and Morvens Regis scoring his second goal of the season in the 20th minute.
Benkovszky completed his first collegiate hat-trick with goals in the 34th and 44th minutes to build a commanding lead.
Medgar Evers (1-8-2) spoiled the clean sheet with a penalty kick six minutes into the second stanza, before Bryan Hong-Dominguez pushed the lead back to five with a goal in the 60th minute and Benkovszky finding the back of the net again in the 73rd.
Hong-Dominguez finished with a pair of assists, while Benkovszky, Jude Fox, Flavio Clermont and George Batska all registered helpers. Anil Pugh finished with two saves and picked up the win in goal.
Medgar finished with a 22-19 edge in shots with Pratt leading 12-4 in shots on goal.
Pratt tries for two in a row traveling to SUNY Delhi on Friday, October 13 for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
