MADISON, N.J. – First-year Cameron Windt scored a team-high 17 to lead three Cannoneers in double figures, but the Pratt Institute men's basketball team fell to John Jay College of Criminal Justice, 82-69, on Saturday afternoon in the consolation game of the Rose City Classic.
Windt shot 5-for-8 from the field and a perfect 5-of-5 from the free throw line, with three assists, two boards, two steals and a block. Classmate Jaden Young added 14 points off the bench on 6-of-12 shooting with four boards and three dimes. Justin Caver rounded out the trio in double figures with 11 points and two steals.
Pratt (2-3) jumped out to a five-point lead early on a Caver trifecta and led for nearly five minutes before John Jay (3-2) pulled even at 7-all. The teams exchanged the lead three times and tied five times until the Bloodhounds scored 12 unanswered for a 26-16 lead the wouldn't relinquish again. The Cannoneers would pull as close as six before trailing 44-32 at the intermission.
The black-and-gold continued to fight in the second and whittled a 14-point deficit to six again, 52-46, at the 11:13 mark on a Windt jumper. After John Jay re-extended to a 15-point cushion, 67-52, with 5:26 to play, the Cannoneers made a 10-4 surge and a Windt trifecta brought the deficit back to single digits with just over two minutes to play, but Pratt couldn't get any closer.
Pratt finished with a higher connect rate, 43 to 41 percent, but John Jay made seven more field goals. The Bloodhounds also won the battle of the boards, 51-31, and doubled up on points in the paint, 48-24.
Eight different Cannoneers with score a field goal with Patrick O'Gorman and Quinn McCormick chipping in seven points apiece and Owen Layton adding six.
Isaac Holmes paced John Jay with a game-best 23 points and Jamir Stewart added 16 points.
Pratt returns to their home floor and welcomes Purchase College to the ARC on Tuesday, November 21 for a 6 p.m. tip off.
