Men’s Basketball Stymied at Sarah Lawrence

Mekhi Davis erupted for a career-high 22

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Mekhi Davis scored a game-high 22 but the Pratt Institute men's basketball team couldn't overcome a slow first half in an 84-63 road defeat to Sarah Lawrence College on Thursday evening.

Davis shot 9-of-13 from the field with three rebounds off the bench to set a new career-high – nearly tripling his previous best of eight. The sophomore transfer was the lone Cannoner in double figures with five others contributing at least six points. Thomas Van Trier, Cameron Windt and Justin Caver chipped in eight points each.

Pratt (3-5) scored the game's first points before Sarah Lawrence (2-6) scored the next 12 points and never trailed again as their lead ballooned to 30-9 as the black-and-gold mustered just 26 percent shooting (8-for-31) over the opening 20 minutes.

Despite improving to 40 percent shooting in the second stanza and finishing with nine fewer turnovers, 24-13, Pratt still couldn't keep pace with the Gryphons who finished the game connecting on 51 percent (26-of-51). Sarah Lawrence also controlled the battle on the glass with a 52-28 discrepancy, that included 40 on the defensive end.

Sarah Lawrence was led by Lucas Murray's 17-point, 10-rebound double-double. Derek Hickman added 16 and eight and Kyle Jefferson rounded out three in double-figures with 15.

Pratt returns to the hardwood on Saturday, December 2 for a road test against the College of Mount Saint Vincent at noon.
