BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Pratt Institute women's volleyball team concluded their regular season and honored their three seniors with a tri-match at the ARC on Saturday afternoon, were handed a pair of of 3-0 defeats by Misericordia and Kean Universities.
Olivia Julich paced the attack with 19 kills. Senior Gabby Genduso dished out 44 assists and fellow senior Hannah Leitten landed five aces.
In their opener against Misericordia, the Cannoneers got off to a slow start and never led in the opening frame. The black-and-gold battled back in the second stanza after falling behind 5-1, and gailing a lead at 9-8. Both teams traded the lead six more times before a 4-0 Cougar run put them on top for good.
Pratt trailed by as many as six in the third at 15-9 before coming on strong late and threatening to extend the match. The Cannoneers earned set points at 24-23 and 25-24 but couldn't convert and Misericordia closed out the match in straight sets, 25-14, 25-20, 27-25.
Julich slammed a match-high 13 kills with two blocks. Josie Johnson landed six kills with three aces and three digs. Emily Sontag chipped in five kills with a team-high eight digs, three aces and two blocks. Genduso handed out a match-high-tying 29 assists as the team hit .221.
Kean (20-10) defeated Misericordia (17-16) in straight sets in the second match of the day and defeated the Cannoners by the same margin in the third match. Pratt held the lead just twice in the contest in a 25-9, 25-16, 25-17 defeat.
Julich led the offense again against Kean with six kills, three digs and two aces. Colleen Russell chipped in a trio of kills and a solo block and Bilge Tercan also contributed three kills. Sontag and fifth-year senior Zeynep Akgol added two kills apiece. Genduso finished with 15 assists and seven digs. Emma Leavey brought up 10 digs.
The Cannoneers conclude their regular season with a 10-12 mark and await their final seeding and quarterfinal opponent for the 2023 Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Championship that begins on Friday at Salisbury University. Tournament seedings will be released on Monday.
