BROOKLYN, N.Y. — First-year Cameron Windt knocked down the game-winning three-pointer with 1.5 seconds remaining to lift the Pratt Institute men's basketball team to a 68-65 home victory over borough foes Medgar Evers College on Monday evening. Windt led all scorers with 23 points as the Cannoneers (5-5) rallied from 11 down in the second half and returned to the .500 mark with their second straight win and third in the last four games.
Windt shot 8-for-15 from the field and 6-of-11 from three-point land to go along with five rebounds and two blocks. Senior Patrick O'Gorman added 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting and swiped a game-high five steals, dished out four assists and grabbed three boards. Justin Caver added eight points, a team-high seven boards and four thefts.
An evenly matched opening 20 minutes of play saw Pratt build a six-point lead six minutes in, only to trail by the same margin with four minutes remaining, before closing over the half on a 7-0 run to head into the lockers up 30-29.
The Cannoneer offense got off to a slow start returning from the intermission mustering just two field goals over the first six minutes and the Cougars pulled away to an 11-point lead, 48-37. Pratt regrouped after a timeout and rattled off eight straight to bring back a one-possession ballgame.
Later still trailing by five, Windt jumpstarted a 7-0 run with a trey, followed by a Quinn McCormick bucket and a pair of O'Gorman free throws to give the Cannoneers a 60-58 lead with 3:32 to play – their first lead since the beginning of the half.
After the lead exchanged hands two more times, Pratt clung to a 65-63 lead entering the final minute of regulation. Dante Simmons would knot the game at 65-all with a bucket with 7.0 seconds left but Pratt quickly inbounded the ball, Thomas Van Trier passing the ball to Caver who pushed it up to Windt who took one dribble, fired, and rattled home the game-winner. With one-and-a-half ticks left, Medgar could only launch a desperation heave from backcourt that fell short.
Michael Perez paced Medgar (2-6) with 22 points. Simmons finished with a near triple-double with 10 points, eight rebounds and nine assists. Derek Wicker chipped in 11 points.
Pratt looks to build their first three-game win streak since the 2019-20 season welcoming Brooklyn College to the ARC on Thursday, December 7 for a 7 p.m. showdown.
