FLUSHING, N.Y. – Mehul Bhargava collected a straight-set victory in the lead singles match but the Pratt Institute men's tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision to the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Friday evening at the USTA National Tennis Center.
Barghava won 6-1, 7-6 (2) in the No. 1 singles match for the lone point for the Cannoneers (6-3). Bhargava teamed up Ryan Nelsen in an 8-4 loss in the top doubles match, the closest of the session for the black-and-gold. Nelsen fell at love at No. 2 singles, suffering his first singles loss of the season.
Caleb Callahan and Brian Duval both took four games off their opponents at No. 3 and No. 6 singles in defeat.
The match against USMMA (4-4) was originally scheduled for Saturday, April 14 but moved up to Friday due to the wet forecast for Saturday and the Cannonners' Friday opponent, Rutgers-Camden unable to play.
Pratt returns to the courts on Friday, April 21 facing Baruch College in a road match at the National Tennis Center starting at 7 p.m.
