Women’s Volleyball Suffers First Blemishes at Ramapo Tri-Match

The Cannoneers dropped a tight-battle with FDU-Florham before falling to unbeaten Ramapo.

MAHWAH, N.J. – The Pratt Institute women's volleyball saw their three-match win streak to open the 2023 season come to a close dropping a pair of 3-0 decisions to Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham and Ramapo College on Saturday afternoon at the Bradley Center.

Pratt (3-2) battled with FDU-Florham (7-4) in their first match of the day and was led by Olivia Julich's 11 match-high kills and three blocks. Colleen Russell added eight kills on a .333 hitting effort and Gabby Genduso chipped in four kills as seven different Cannoneers recorded a kill in defeat. Hannah Leitten dished out 24 assists and served three aces.

The opener featured 27 ties and 16 lead changes over the 1.5-hour battle that FDU took 25-19, 27-25, 25-22. The second stanza saw the black-and-gold rally from a 17-10 deficit to take the lead at 22-21 before going to extra points before falling short. The third set saw both teams separated by no more than two points the entire frame with 13 ties and 10 led changes but Pratt unable to extend the match.

Pratt was unable to rally in match two hand host Ramapo (6-0) their first loss of the season. Julich and Emily Sontag paced the attack with four kills apiece and Leitten dished out 11 assists as the Roadrunners sped away from the Cannoneers 25-7, 25-14, 25-9.

The Cannoneers head to Washington, D.C. to compete in the Worthington Classic hosted by Gallaudet University. Pratt opens their four-match weekend with on Friday, September 22 with matches against DeSales University and Gallaudet University.
