BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Olivia Julich put down a match-high-tying nine kills but the Pratt Insitute women's volleyball team dropped a straight-set decision, 26-24, 25-18, 25-19, to John Jay College on Wednesday evening at the ARC.
Julich finished with a match-best 13.5 points, also serving three aces and adding two blocks and eight digs on the defensive end. Emily Sontag chipped in five kills and six digs. Colleen Russell had four error-free kills for a .444 hitting night and stuffed two blocks.
Gabby Genduso dished out 19 assists and Emma Leavey brought up 10 digs.
John Jay (7-2) was led by Josanne Lewis' nine kills, three aces and 17 digs.
Pratt (3-7) pushed the Bloodhounds to the limit in an opening set that saw 11 ties and eight lead changes leading by as many as four at 18-14 before an 8-1 run put the visitors on top. The Cannoneers erased three set points to pull even at 24-all but couldn't steal back the set from the Bloodhounds.
After the tight opening set, the gold-and-black couldn't keep pace with the visitors and were limited to nine kills the final two frames.
Pratt returns to the court this Saturday, September 30 to host St. Joseph's University (Brooklyn) and Brooklyn College in a Battle of Brooklyn tri-match. The Cannoneers square off with Clinton Hill rivals St. Joseph's at 11 a.m.
