MORRISTOWN, N.J. – The Pratt Institute women's volleyball team began the Head Coach Alexander Moule era with a 3-1 victory over Saint Elizabeth University on Wednesday evening in a non-conference road matchup from Saint Joseph Hall. Sophomore Emily Sontag led all attackers and three Cannoneers with double-figure kills with 15 and added 13 digs in a double-double effort.
Junior Josie Johnson had a career-high 14 kills, a team-high 14 digs and a match-best five aces. Classmate Olivia Julich landed 10 kills at a .250 clip and stuffed a match-high six blocks (four solo). Seniors Hannah Leitten and Gabby Genduso combined for 34 assists with Leitten dishing 19 helpers.
Pratt (1-0) outlasted the Eagles (1-1) in a first-set battle that featured 14 ties and nine lead changes, needing to fight off two set points before converting on their third set point with a Sontag ace for a 30-28 win. The black-and-gold used a 12-2 run in the second stanza to win the set 25-20 for a 2-0 lead. After dropping the third set, 25-17, Pratt rallied in the fourth set and remained on top nearly the entire frame to close out the match in four by a 25-17 margin.
Pratt returns to the ARC for their home opener on Friday, September 8 hosting SUNY College at Old Westbury with a 7 p.m. first serve.
