Windt’s Career-High, Men’s Basketball Comeback Bid Fall Short to York

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Cameron Windt scored a career-high 29 points to lead four Cannoneers in double-figures and the Pratt Insitute men's basketball team erased a 13-point, second-half deficit, before dropping an 84-82 non-conference decision to York College (NY) at the Activity Resource Center.

Windt drained seven three-pointers and shot 9-of-19 from the field assemble his career-best outing. Mekhi Davis had 15 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Justin Caver recorded his first collegiate double-double with 12 points and 10 assists, also pulling down four rebounds.

Playing in his final game in a Pratt uniform and honored in pregame ceremonies, Ace Bibbs had a near double-double with 14 points, a team-high nine rebounds and three steals.

The Cardinals (2-7) scored the first five points of the game before a 10-2 run put Pratt on top and the Cannoneers led for most of the first half. Another 9-2 spurt later in the frame powered by triples by Efe Tuydes, Caver and Windt pushed the advantage to double-digits 32-22 with 6:30 before the break, but the Cardinals surged late and regained the lead and carried a 42-39 advantage into the lockers.

York used a 12-2 run early in the second stanza to build their first double-digit lead of the game, 56-45, less than five minutes into the period. A pair of Windt buckets helped cut the deficit to four, 56-52, but York responded with a 11-2 run to build a 13-point lead and they kept a double-digit separation for much of the half. With Pratt still trailing by 11 with 3:30 to play, the Cannoneers unleashed a 13-2 spurt, Windt scoring eight straight points capped by a trifecta that tied the game at 82-all with 37 seconds remaining.

After getting a key defensive stop, Pratt had the ball and a shot to take the lead before a costly turnover led to the game-winning basket on the other end with 15 seconds left. Pratt still had another shot to tie or take the lead but Windt's long three-pointer for the win drew back iron and the Cardinals escaped with the win.

Aidony Nivar led five for York in double figures with 18 points. Brandon Barrett recorded a 17-point, 11-rebound double-double.

Pratt takes a hiatus for winter break and returns to the hardwood in the new year and commences their inaugural Atlantic East Conference schedule traveling to Centenary University on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 for a 1 p.m. showdown.
