Men’s Volleyball Pushes CCNY to Four on the Road

NEW YORK — Joji Kawamura and Max Wang put away double-digit kills as six different Cannoneers recorded a kill but the Pratt Institute men's volleyball team was unable to upend the City College of New York in a 3-1 defeat (28-26, 17-25, 25-17, 25-14) on Monday evening on the road.

Kawamura pounded a match-best 11 kills and brought up three digs for his first match with double-digit kills. Wang finished with 10 kills and 11 digs for a double-double, also serving up three aces. Jason Raymond added six kills, four blocks (three solo) and two digs. Wallace Hallot chipped in a career-high five kills with two aces and three digs. Brooks Reid directed the offense with 30 assists and stuffed three solo blocks.

CCNY(2-0) built an early 11-4 lead in the opening set. After Pratt called a timeout down 16-11 to regroup, the Cannoneers ran off an 11-4 run of their own to build a 22-20 lead late. Pratt (1-2) saw three set points, but was unable to convert and then fought off one CCNY set point before succumbing on their second set point.

Pratt leveled the match at one set apiece using a 7-1 run to break open a 14-13 second stanza and remained in firm control.

The third set saw fall behind by six early, but using a 5-0 run to pull within two at 17-15, but CCNY responded with five unanswered to take a 2-1 set lead. CCNY took control of the fourth set with an 8-1 run to build a 16-11 lead and closed out the match on a 7-1 spurt while serving three aces.

Ricky Li and Reng Chen led CCNY with 10 kills each and they combined to hit .212. Li also brought up a match-best 14 digs for a double-double.

Pratt looks to get back to level .500 traveling to Clinton Hill rivals St. Joseph's University (Brooklyn) on Thursday, February 8 at 7 p.m.
