BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Paced by 32 kills from Jason Raymond and Max Wang, the Pratt Institute men's volleyball jumped out to a 2-1 lead before dropping a five-set decision (26-24, 22-25, 16-25, 25-17, 15-5) to Bryn Athyn College in a United East Conference match at The Hill Center on Wednesday evening.
Raymond led the attack with 17 kills and Wang had 15 as both registered double-double efforts bringing up 10 digs apiece. Raymond also landed a trio of aces while Wang served up one. Brooks Reid handed out 36 assists to go along with five kills, six digs and three blocks (two solo). Wallace Hallot also chipped in five kills on .364 hitting with two solo rejections.
Bryn Athyn (11-12, 1-2) took a highly contested opening set that saw neither team ahead by more than two with 18 ties and seven lead changes. The Lions saved a set point at 24-23 before escaping with the opening set, 26-24.
Pratt (4-11, 0-3) never trailed in the second and third stanzas to build a 2-1 set advantage. Buoyed by six kills from Raymond and three from Wang, the Cannoneers rolled to a 25-16 third-set win on the strength of .391 hitting as a squad with 12 kills.
The gold-and-black couldn't carry the momentum past the third however as Bryn Athyn sped out to a 12-6 lead in the fourth and an 8-3 lead at the side change in the fifth to take control of the final two frames and return to Pennsylvania with their United East win of the season.
Bryan Choute led all players with 26 kills on .358 hitting.
Pratt continues United East Conference play traveling to Wilson College on Saturday, March 23 for a 2 p.m. showdown.
