FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — The Pratt Institute women's tennis team battled Salisbury University in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Championship, but ended up on the losing end of a 5-0 decision on Friday afternoon.
Pallavi Verghese and Beatrice Crespo played a hard-fought match at No. 1 doubles taking an early lead and remaining even at 5-all before taking a 8-5 defeat that gave the Sea Gulls a 3-0 lead after doubles.
In the singles session, Salisbury clinched the match with victories in the No. 5 and No. 6 positions. At the time of the stoppage, Ariana Castro was leading in her match in the No. 4 spot, taking the first set 6-3 and up 3-2 in the second. Srishti Agarwal was in a marathon battle in the No. 3 position that got stopped in the middle of a first-set tiebreaker. After dropping her first set at No. 2 singles, Crespo was leading 3-1 in the second set and had won three games in a row.
The Cannoneers await a possible ECAC Championship berth or will conclude their season at 11-1 overall. Pratt will join the Atlantic East Conference beginning in the 2024-25 academic year.
