KINGS POINT, N.Y. — The Pratt Institute women's volleyball team dropped a straight-set decision (25-17, 25-14, 25-11) to the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Saturday morning in both squads' 2024 season opener.
Olivia Julich led the Cannoneers (0-1) with six kills, nine digs and two blocks, all team highs. Emily Sontag added five kills against no errors for a .238 hitting effort to go along with nine assists and six digs. Josie Johnson added a trio of kills along with four assists, six digs and an ace.
Pratt raced out to an early 4-0 lead behind the strong service of Johnson, but USMMA (1-0) responded with a 7-0 run and remained on top for good also taking the lead early in the second and third frames. The Mariners combined for 39 kills on .313 hitting.
The Cannoneers host Saint Elizabeth University on Friday, September 6 for their home opener. First serve is at 6 p.m. at St. Joseph's University's Hill Center.
