BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The Pratt Institute women's volleyball team fell in straight sets to Sarah Lawrence, 25-23, 25-18, 25-10, in a non-conference home match on Monday evening at The Hill Center.
Kelsy Padilla led six different Cannoneers (3-6) to record a kill with eight and six digs. Colleen Russell added six kills and 14 digs. Emily Sontag contributed five kills while distributing 18 assists with 11 digs for a double-double and stuffed three blocks (one solo).
Emma Leavey brought up 15 digs to lead three Cannoneers with double-figure digs. Natalie Dziadzio added a quintet of kills with two aces, six digs and two blocks.
A tightly contested opening set saw Pratt fall behind 17-11 before assembling a 12-5 run to take a 23-22 lead, but the Gryphons (7-3) rattled off three straight points to take the frame. The black-and-gold crept out to an early 6-3 lead in the second stanza, powered by back-to-back kills from Padilla and a Russell ace, but a 9-2 spurt put the visitors on top for good and they carried the momentum into the third and collected their first win in the series in the last nine meetings.
After playing five matches in seven days, Pratt returns to the court this Saturday, September 28, heading to Manhattan to face Baruch College and New Jersey City University in a tri-match starting at 10 a.m.
