BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The Pratt Institute women's volleyball team fell to Marywood University, 25-14, 25-20, 25-23, on Saturday afternoon in its annual Dig Pink match at the Activity Resource Center..
Pratt (3-17, 0-5 Atlantic East) settled in after the first set and made a charge late. The Cannoneers opened the third on a 4-0 run and later led 22-19 before Marywood (22-4, 3-2) answered with a closing push. Pratt drew even at 23-23 on a service miscue and extended rallies with defense before the visitors secured the sweep.
Maggie Hughes (Knoxville, Tenn.) led Pratt with eight kills on .286 hitting, two aces and six digs. Colleen Russell (Asbury, N.J.) also added eight kills and a solo block, and setter Eden Shih (Manhattan, N.Y.) dished 22 assists with six digs. Jamie Shoemake (La Crescenta, Calif.) finished with nine digs and an ace, libero Gabriella Prieto (Amityville, N.Y.) added seven digs and an ace, and Kelsy Padilla (Brooklyn, N.Y.) chipped in five kills. Joanna Doyle (Warren, N.H.) contributed three kills.
The Cannoneers' best stretch in the second set featured a string of Hughes swings and a service ace to erase a 14-12 deficit and pull even. In the third, Russell, Padilla and Doyle supplied key sideouts during the 22-19 surge before Marywood closed the final two points.
Marywood was paced by Taylor Hallam's 15 kills on .652 hitting with three aces and three blocks. Ayla Bransford handed out 29 assists and two aces, and Catie Woolf added two aces and eight digs.
