BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The Pratt Institute men's basketball team celebrated its home opener with a 68-57 win over Hunter College on Tuesday night at the Pratt ARC.
It marked the Cannoneers' first win of the 2025-26 season and their first victory over the Hawks in the all-time series, snapping a four-game skid since the series began in 2021.
Pratt (1-1) turned a one-point halftime edge into breathing room with a fast start after the break. Trey Phillips (Phoenix, Ariz.) finished at the rim 49 seconds into the half, Cameron Hatcher (Cincinnati, Ohio) buried a right-wing trey at 18:25, and Thomas Graetz (Sydney, Australia) scored in transition off a Hatcher steal at 17:19 for a 41-33 lead. The Cannoneers never trailed again after a first half that featured three ties and 10 lead changes.
Phillips paced Pratt with 18 points and nine rebounds, capping his night with a second-half dunk at 10:55 and a late layup at 2:23. Elijah Fermaint (Orlando, Fla.) added 11 points and four assists, including a three-point play at 4:07 that pushed the margin to 63-49. Mekhi Davis (Brooklyn, N.Y.) posted 11 points, six boards and two steals, and Sebastian Roda (Greenwich, Conn.) chipped in eight points and five rebounds, hitting a corner 3 at 12:53 to restore a double-digit cushion. Graetz closed it out with a dagger trifecta with less than a minute remaining.
The Cannoneers owned the glass 53-30, piling up 19 offensive rebounds and 42 points in the paint. Kurt Thomas (Dallas, Texas) grabbed nine boards, while Kerem Ozdemir (Union, N.J.) and Mason Fritz (Orlando, Fla.) combined for five rebounds and five points off the bench. Hatcher added three steals as Pratt totaled eight.
Hunter (0-2) was led by John Paul Maaba with 18 points, three assists and three steals. Jayden Jarrett posted 15 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks, and Jeremiah Otasowie scored 11.
Pratt hits the road for the next two games, traveling to Mount St. Mary College on Saturday, Nov. 15 for a noon showdown.
