BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The Pratt Institute women's basketball team fell 61-33 to St. Joseph's-Long Island on Saturday in a neutral-site matchup at The Hill Center on day two of the St. Joseph's Tip-Off.
Pratt (1-3) traded early baskets and twice tied the game in the first quarter, then made its biggest push after halftime. Anabela Jakelic (Zagreb, Croatia) converted four straight points and finished a three-possession flurry with a layup to pull the Cannoneers within 27-23 at 7:36 of the third. St. Joseph's-Long Island (2-0) answered with a 16-3 run to close the period and kept control the rest of the way.
Lola Mactavish (Sydney, Australia) led the black-and-gold with 10 points, knocking down three 3-pointers. Jakelic added 10 points and eight rebounds, while Kylie Grant (Dallas, Texas) posted five points and six boards. Miga Higa (Torrance, Calif.) chipped in four points and three steals, and Dahlia Dimitrov (Montreal, Canada) collected a game-high four steals. Emily Carlson (Utica, N.Y.) grabbed seven rebounds and handed out two assists.
Defense sparked Pratt throughout — the Cannoneers finished with 13 steals and three blocks — but foul trouble and second-chance opportunities tilted the afternoon. Jakelic and Carlson fouled out, and St. Joseph's turned 29 offensive rebounds into 21 second-chance points. Pratt's 10 second-chance points and four points in the paint helped it hang around into the third before the Golden Eagles' decisive surge.
St. Joseph's-Long Island was led by Madelyn Barone's 15 points and six rebounds. Chantelle Larbi added 10 points and eight boards, and Addison Dellaporta contributed 11 points and eight rebounds.
Pratt returns home to the ARC on Saturday, Nov. 22, for a 12 p.m. tip against Berkeley (N.Y.).
