Fritz Scores 11 Off the Bench Against League-Leading Marymount

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The Pratt Institute men's basketball team fell to Marymount University, 75-48, in an Atlantic East Conference contest on Saturday afternoon at the Activity Resource Center.

Pratt (8-7, 0-4 Atlantic East) was led by a strong performance off the bench from first-year Mason Fritz (Orlando, Fla.), who scored a team-high 11 points. Senior Mekhi Davis (Brooklyn, N.Y.) chipped in 10 points and tied his career-high with five assists. Marymount (7-7, 4-0 Atlantic East) remained unbeaten in league play.

The Cannoneers grabbed an early 3-2 lead on a three-pointer from Thomas Graetz (Sydney, Australia), but the visitors responded, building a lead through strong interior play and free-throw shooting. Marymount carried a 37-18 advantage into the locker room at halftime.

Pratt showed resilience in the second half, scoring 30 points and finding an offensive rhythm. Fritz ignited a run midway through the period, connecting on a pair of three-pointers that helped the Cannoneers stay within striking distance. A layup by Kurt Thomas (Dallas, Texas) with just under five minutes to play made it a 60-45 game before the Saints closed out the contest.

Davis orchestrated the offense for Pratt, while Elijah Fermaint (Orlando, Fla.) led the effort on the glass with seven rebounds. Thomas Prendergast (Bayport, N.Y.) was active defensively, recording three steals, and Thomas added six points and four rebounds.

Marymount was paced by a game-high 23 points from James Bell, who shot 7-for-8 from the field. Jerome Lowrey posted a near double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds, and Max Pearcy also added 10 points.

Pratt returns to the ARC on Wednesday, Jan. 21, for another conference matchup against St. Elizabeth University. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
