MORRISTOWN, N.J. — The Pratt Institute men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 road decision to Saint Elizabeth University on Wednesday afternoon.
Pratt (3-11-1, 1-6-0) conceded twice early in the second half before mounting a comeback bid that fell one goal short.Â
The match remained scoreless through a defensive opening 45 minutes in which the hosts held a 5-4 edge in shots. Sophomore goalkeeper Hayden Pettit (Houston, Texas) turned aside two attempts in the opening frame to keep the game level.
Saint Elizabeth (5-7-2, 4-3-0) broke the deadlock just 53 seconds into the second half. Following an initial shot from Zach Ahmed, Brandon Quishpi scored his seventh goal of the season in the 46th minute to put the hosts in front.
The Eagles extended the lead in the 51st minute when Eliezer Cortes converted a pass from Ahmed to make it 2-0.
Pratt responded with four substitutions in the 58th minute, introducing fresh legs to the midfield and attacking lines. The shift generated offensive momentum, and Costa (Cresskill, N.J.) broke through in the 68th minute, scoring his third goal of the season to trim the margin to 2-1.
The Cannoneers pushed for the equalizer over the final 20 minutes, earning four corner kicks in the second half. In the 85th minute, first-year forward David Garcia-Sanchez (Alexander, Maine) sent a shot toward the bottom right corner, but Saint Elizabeth goalkeeper Jonathan Ramirez Delgado made the save to protect the lead.
Costa finished with two shots, while Garcia-Sanchez and sophomore forward Lawton Tucker-Ortega (Denver, Colo.) each placed one shot on target. Benkovszky (Ashland, Va.), first-year Pavel Emam (Arlington, Va.) and sophomore Alexander Litzenberger (Asheville, N.C.) each added a shot for Pratt, and Pettit finished with three saves over 90 minutes.
The hosts finished with a 12-7 advantage in shots and a 5-3 margin in shots on goal. Saint Elizabeth earned five corner kicks to Pratt's four.
The teams will meet again in three days in the opening round of the 2026 Atlantic East Conference Men's Soccer Championship. The No. 6-seeded Cannoneers will travel to No. 3-seed Eagles for a quarterfinal match on Saturday, Oct. 31 with a kickoff time to be announced.
