HADDONFIELD, N.J. — Junior goalkeeper Angelina Perez (Jamaica, N.Y.) has been picked as the Atlantic East Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games played September 28-October 4, the league office announced today.
Perez delivered 45 scoreless minutes of relief in net, making six second-half saves to preserve a 2-0 clean sheet over Gwynedd Mercy on Saturday. Entering at the start of the second half with Pratt holding a 1-0 advantage, Perez was tested repeatedly by the Griffins' attack. She turned aside all six shots on frame she faced, highlighted by a stretch of five saves in a 12-minute window between the 57th and 69th minutes, keeping Gwynedd Mercy off the board before the Cannoneers added an 80th-minute insurance tally.
It is the first weekly honor collected by the rookie Perez and she is the fourth Cannoneer to receive the weekly accolade.Â
Junior Kate Nolan (Perth Australia) also received a mention on the honor roll after playing a role in both goals in the victory, scoring the game-winner in the third minute and assisting on the insurance marker in the 80th.
The Cannonneers (5-2-0, 1-0) travel to Morristown, N.J. face Saint Elizabeth University on Wednesday, October 7 in an Atlantic East Conference match starting at 3 p.m.
