Thomas Paces Men’s Basketball at First-Place Marymount

ARLINGTON, Va. — The Pratt Institute men's basketball team fell to first-place Marymount University, 81-48, in an Atlantic East Conference road game on Saturday afternoon. First-year Kurt Thomas (Dallas, Texas) led the Cannoneers for the third-straight game with 17 points.

Pratt (11-12, 3-9 Atlantic East) played tough early but could not hand the Saints (14-8, 11-1 Atlantic East) their second league loss.

The first half started as a back-and-forth battle, with eight lead changes and three ties in the opening 10 minutes. A layup from Cameron Hatcher (Cincinnati, Ohio) gave the gold-and-black a 12-11 lead, and a jumper by Thomas Prendergast (Bayport, N.Y.) later put Pratt ahead 14-13. From there, however, the Saints used a decisive run to build a 43-23 advantage at halftime.

Marymount shot over 50 percent on their home floor for the contest and widened their cushion in the second half.

Thomas had an excellent game, scoring his team-high on 5-for-8 shooting, while grabbing a team-best eight rebounds, three steals, and two blocks. Prendergast finished with eight points and five boards. Mekhi Davis (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was disruptive on defense, recording three steals to go with six points and two assists.

Marymount was paced by a 17-point, nine-rebound effort from Jerome Lowrey. Reuben McEachern posted a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds as the Saints held a 50-23 advantage on the boards. Ronier Peters chipped in 11 points off the bench.

Pratt will play its final road game of the season on Wednesday, Feb. 18, traveling to Morristown, N.J. looking to sweep the season series with Saint Elizabeth University. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
