Men's Soccer Falls 1-0 To CCNY In Season Opener

NEW YORK — The Pratt Institute men's soccer team opened its 2026 season with a 1-0 defeat to future conference foe The City College of New York on Tuesday at Randall's Island.

Konstantinos Psomaras scored the match's only goal in the 65th minute, assisted by Yanis Hamdi, and Axel Vazquez made 3 saves to secure the clean sheet for CCNY (1-0-0). Pratt (0-1-0) was outshot 14-6 but goalkeeper Hayden Pettit (Houston, Texas) kept the Cannoneers within reach through the opening 64 minutes, stopping shots from five different CCNY players before Psomaras scored the lone tally. Pettit finished with seven saves on eight shots on goal in the loss.

Pratt's best answer came four minutes after the CCNY goal, when Yuming Liang (Beijing, China) struck the post from inside the box in the 69th minute but the Cannoneers were unable to put another shot on frame the rest of the way.

Bryan Hong-Dominguez (San Diego, Calif.) recorded two shots, including one saved by Vazquez in the sixth minute. First-year Dylan Knott (Albany, Calif.) and Lawton Tucker-Ortega (Denver, Colo.) both accounted for the other shots for the Cannoneers.

The decision snaps a series of four straight draws between the two squads dating back to 2022. Pratt will join CCNY and the other members of the CUNYAC conference to form a new conference beginning play next season.

Pratt returns to action Friday, Sept. 4, hosting SUNY Cobleskill in their home opener at 12:30 p.m. at Randall's Island Field 10.
