NEWBURGH, N.Y. — The Pratt Institute women's volleyball team fell to Mount Saint Mary College in straight sets Friday, dropping a 25-19, 25-10, 25-15 decision at the Elaine & William Kaplan Recreation Center.

Mount Saint Mary (2-0) opened the first set on a 5-0 run and later stretched its lead to 21-11 behind a stretch of five straight points. Pratt (0-2) answered with a run of its own, getting kills from Joanna Doyle (Warren, N.H.) and Jamie Shoemake (La Crescenta, Calif.) to pull within 16-21, but the Knights closed out the set 25-19.

The Knights controlled the final two sets throughout as their offense continued to find their rythym and combined for 19 kills over the final two frames and finished with 40 for the match to the Cannoneers 24.

Colleen Russell (Asbury, N.J.) led Pratt with eight kills on 24 attempts. Doyle had an efficient afternoon adding five kills on .308 hitting. Kelsy Padilla (Brooklyn, N.Y.) chipped in five kills, an ace and 12 digs. Emma Hwang (Dallas, Texas) ran the offense with 12 assists, and Broerman paced the defense with 16 digs. 

Emily Baron led the Knights with 13 kills, and Julianna Simone recorded a double-double with 12 kills and 19 digs. Sofia Fredericks directed Mount Saint Mary's offense with 29 assists.

Pratt hosts Lehman College on Thursday, Sept. 10 for its home opener at the ARC. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
