Carlos Acevedo joined the Pratt Department of Athletics and Recreation as head women's basketball coach/events and facilities coordinator onĀ April 29, 2024.
Acevedo brought over 10 years of coaching experience to Clinton Hill and joined PrattĀ from Adelphi University where he was the assistant coach for five seasons ā the last four as lead assistant ā over two stints from 2016-18 and again from 2021-24. While with theĀ Panthers, he was responsible for overseeing all of the Division II program's recruiting efforts as recruiting coordinator.Ā
In his first season in Garden City, Acevedo helped steer the Panthers to a 27-5 record, the Northeast 10 (NE10) Tournament Championship and an NCAA Division II Championship appearance, advancing to the second round.
Over his tenure, he aided in the development of four NE10 All-Conference selections ā three of whom received NE10 First Team and D2CCA All-Region honors (Sierra Clark and Calli Balfour in 2017 and Ty'zhea Hawkins in 2023) ā and the All-NE10 Defensive Player of the Year (Emily Miccile in 2022).Ā
In between his stints at Adelphi, Acevedo was a boys' varsity assistant at Christ the King High School that also won the CHSAA City Championship in 2019. He also later served as the head girls junior varsity coach at Greenwich Country Day School.
Originally from Queens, Acevedo received a bachelor's degree in Corporate Communications from Baruch College in 2011 and a master's degree in Physical Education from Adelphi in 2020. He currently resides in White PlainsĀ with his wife, Blair, and one-year-old daughter, Harper.
