BROOKLYN -- Four players paced Pratt with eight kills a piece in
the Cannoneers 3-1 win over visiting King's College Thursday night
in Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletics Confernece women's
volleyball play at the ARC.
Freshmen Hannah
Calderwood (Clinton, WA) and Charlotte Burch
(Lawrence, KS) each swung for eight kills, the latter on 19
attempts for a match-best .316 hitting percentage. Sophomore setter
Alli
Houghton (Allentown, PA) led all players with 27 assists as
Pratt took its season opener and HVIAC opener 25-20, 25-15, 22-25,
25-21.

completed her double-double with 14 digs. Middle hitter Hannah
Eckart (Norwalk, CT) added eight kills, 14 digs and a pair of solo
blocks in the loss.
The opening two sets were dominated largely by the Cannoneers
before King's turned the tables in the third. A pair of Calderwood
kills snapped a 9-9 tie and sparked an 11-2 run capped by a Burch
kill, giving Pratt a 20-12 lead in its 25-20 opening set win. Two
of Calderwood's match-high four service aces capped a 7-0 run and
sent the Cannoneers on top 18-10, as the home team cruised to an
easy 25-15 win in Game 2.
King's rebounded midway through the third with some help from
the home team. Back-to-back Calderwood kills started a 5-0 run that
saw Pratt take a 15-13 lead, but an Eckert kill capped a 4-0 King's
run that put the visitors on top 17-15. With Pratt back on top
21-20, four straight Cannoneers errors swung the Lions on top 24-21
before a Rollis kill clinched a King's 25-22 win.
An Alexandra Martin (Huntsville, AL) ace followed by an Eckart
kill had the Lions thinking tie leading 12-9. King's later led
17-13 before a 6-0 run highlighted by consecutive Renia Kagkou
(Athens, Greece) service aces that led to a King's timeout swung
the Cannoneers on top for good at 19-17. Following a second Lions
timeout, this at match point, Houghton set Burch up for her eighth
kills of the night, locking up a 25-21 Game 4 win.
Kagkou and Diana Lezama
(Bethesda, MD) each swung for eight kills for Pratt, with Lezama
leading the defense with 20 digs.
For the Lions, setter Jessie Schnoebelen (San Diego, CA) tossed
up 21 assists.
Pratt returns to play on Wednesday, playing host to Cooper
Union, while The King's College takes nine days off before
traveling to the College of New Rochelle in HVIAC play on September
14.
