BRONXVILLE, NY -- On the afternoon on which Pratt volleyball was born, the Cannoneers picked up the program's first-ever win, besting host Sarah Lawrence College 3-0 on Sunday.
Freshman David Cutler totaled a double-double in the win, leading all players with 14 kills, 10 digs and a .522 hitting percentage.
"The win was an impressive team effort that really showed how much the guys have learned," said head coach Jason Demas.
"David Cutler played really well," Demas added. "Recording 14 kills is impressive, especially hitting .522."
Back-to-back aces from the freshman put Pratt on top 12-4 in the opener, which Pratt would take 25-18 in what would be the closest set of the match. Clinging to a 20-17 lead in the middle set, a Cutler kill and two straight aces from Pratt's Connan Moody helped close out a 5-0 run to take Game 2 25-17. In the third set, a pair of aces from Chris Fantin led to a 6-0 Cannoneers run to close out the team's easy 25-10 win.
Fantin led all players with eight aces, and Moody followed with four. Led by Cutler's .522 clip, the Cannoneers hit a respectable .243 as a team, holding the host Gryphons to a -.054 average.
In earlier action, the Cannoneers dropped the team's first match of the tri-match 3-0 to Fontbonne University (25-12, 25-11, 25-10). Cutler led Pratt with six kills and seven digs, but Fontbonne hit a scorching .435 in the win.
At 1-1 on the season, Pratt returns to play on Friday at 6:00 p.m. at Purchase College.
