BROOKLYN -- Pratt won for the second time in under 24 hours and third time in four matches with a 3-0 sweep of intracity rival Medgar Evers on Saturday at the ARC.
David Cutler led all players with 11 kills, and Connan Moody added eight on 16 swings for a robust .438 hitting percentage. Chris Fantin tossed a match-high 20 assists as Pratt improved to 3-2.
Pratt spotted Medgar a 4-1 in lead to open the afternoon and came back to tie the opening set at 9-9 on an Alex Arovski kill. An Andreas Haji-Georgi ace and a pair of Cutler kills sparked a 5-0 run leading to a Medgar Evers timeout with the visitors trailing 17-12. Cutler's fifth kill of the set on Fantin's eighth assist later capped Pratt's 25-19 win.
In the second set, kills from Moody and Cutler coming off of Medgar Evers attacks put Pratt on top 6-2, and a 4-0 run featuring a service ace and a kill from Cutler extended the Cannoneers lead to 13-8. The Cougars battled back to tie the set at 14-14 before three MEC errors aided a 4-0 Pratt run, and a Moody kill closed out a 25-15 Pratt victory.
For the first time in three sets, the Cannoneers took an early advantage, one the team would not relinquish. A Moody ace put Pratt ahead 7-2, and a kill from the 6-4 sophomore extended the lead to 12-6, and Pratt went on to the 25-20 win.
Pratt returns to play on Friday, March 14 at 7:00 p.m. against Webb.
