QUEENS – Junior guard Carol Cai (West Covena, CA/John A. Rowland) netted a career-high 24 points to lead three Cannoneers in double figures as Pratt used a strong first-half to defeat Vaughn College, 64-44 in Queens on Thursday evening for its fourth consecutive victory.
Freshman center AimeeLyn Miller (Dufor, OR/Dufor) matched a season-high with 14 points and added a career-high nine rebounds. Classmate and reigning Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week Amissa Epperson (Jersey City, NJ/McNair Academic) added 14 and 5. The pair combined to shoot 12-of-18, guiding the Cannoneers over the .500 mark for the first time in women's basketball's three-year rebirth.
The four consecutive victories also mark a program record as Pratt improved to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in HVIAC play.
Cai shot 9-of-17 for the field, including 4-of-6 from behind the arc helping the Cannoneers shoot a season-high 46.6% from the field. Cai added four rebounds as Pratt outrebounded Vaughn 42-28.
Maia Rivers led Vaughn with 16 points and seven assists. Christina Rivers added 13 points for the Warriors, who fell to 1-10 overall and 1-4 in HVIAC play.
