HYDE PARK, NY – Senior Brandon Spinosa (Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) scored the game-winning goal in the 89th minute, sending the Pratt Institute Cannoneers to a 2-1, come-from-behind, victory over the Culinary Institute of America Steels on Saturday afternoon.
Following a Pratt corner kick that was tipped by CIA goalkeeper Nathan Gutcher, Spinosa, on the field as an emergency center back, lunged to recover the ball near the far goalpost, and was then able to push the ball just over the goal line for the winning marker.
Senior Natt Slober (Baltimore, MD/College of West Africa) scored his fourth goal of the season as the Cannoneers improved to 2-0 in the first season since men's soccer returned as an intercollegiate offering at Pratt.
"Today is one of those wins that builds a lot of character because despite not executing our game plan very well, we secured a difficult win," said head coach Jonas Worth. "The grass was in beautiful condition but I think we adjusted poorly to a surface we haven't played on yet."
Senior Joseph Mendoza (Teaneck, NJ/Teaneck) made 11 saves, only allowing Eric Zuniga's goal in the 30th minute that gave Culinary a 1-0 lead.
"Joe kept us in the game with some massive, super-human saves, and our subs were impressive all day," Worth added.
Up Next: The Cannoneers will take on Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival, College of New Rochelle on Saturday, Sept. 24 at Flowers Park in New Rochelle, New York.
