BROOKLYN, NY – The Pratt Institute women's volleyball team dropped their non-conference home match against the Pioneers of William Paterson 3-1 at the ARC.
Following a lopsided 25-3 opening set loss, the Cannoneers put together a much better showing in set number two as kills by Oliver Buika and Anna Elisse Uy put Pratt ahead 18-16. After a Cannoneers timeout with the score tied 18-18, the Pioneers would put together a 7-2 run to take the set, 25-20, and a commanding 2-0 advantage heading into set number three.
William Paterson would ride momentum early in the set, pulling ahead 15-3 while looking to close Pratt in straight sets. Starting with a pair of Emelen Mikelic kills, the Cannoneers would put together their own scoring run, highlighted by back-to-back-to-back Anna Elisse Uy blocks. William Paterson would rally to take a 22-19 advantage, but three more kills by Mikelic would allow Pratt to regain the lead 24-22. An Abby Nagy service ace would provide the winning points for the Cannoneers, as the match went into a fourth set.
As was the case the entire night, William Paterson jumped out to a big lead early in the set, however this time Pratt was unable to respond, ultimately falling 25-14.
For the match, Emelen Mikelic paced the attack with 12 kills, while Oliver Buika finished with five. Defensive Hannah Lee led Pratt with 33 digs, a season-high, while Patricia Morales and Mikelic also set personal bests, with 28 and 22 digs, respectively. Anna Elisse Uy notched four solo blocks in defeat.
Prior to the match, Pratt athletics recognized senior Abby Nagy, who played her final home match at the ARC.
