Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Cannoneers swept in tri-match play

MORRISTOWN, NJ – The Pratt Institute women's volleyball team lost both end of their non-conference tri-match, falling to King's (PA) and the College of St. Elizabeth. The results bring the Cannoneers record to 6-5 overall.

Missing several of their key players to injuries, Pratt couldn't get anything going on the afternoon as their offense struggled.

"Being short handed really hurt us today," stated head coach Louis Sepulveda. "The team played hard but couldn't overcome all the injuries."

Match 1 | Pratt 0, St. Elizabeth 3: Sophomore outside hitter Marlena Todd contributed 10 and nine dig, but the Cannoneers fell in straight sets to the Eagles 25-17, 25-19, 25-10 in the opening game of the tri-match.

For the match, Pratt was held to a negative hitting percentage and committed 21 attacking errors.

The Eagles were led by Yasmin'Na Muhammad's 11 kills.

Match 2 | Pratt 0, King's College (PA) 3: Freshman Emelen Mikelic produced a team-best 11 kills, while Marlena Todd added nine, but the Cannoneers dropped their match to King's (PA) in three sets, 25-11, 25-17, 25-9.

After a subpar offensive performance in their opening match, Pratt was able to produce better numbers against King's, posting a positive hitting percentage while reducing their attacking errors. Unfortunately for the Cannoneers, King's offense found an early rhythm, hitting a blistering .392 overall while committing just six errors, as they made quick work of Pratt.

The Monarchs were led by Katelyn Shifflett's 14 kills, while Maddie Kumm added 31 assists for the victors.

Up Next: The Cannoneers return to Brooklyn this Friday for a non-conference match against Cooper Union in the ARC. First set is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
