Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Shooting woes doom Pratt in a 48-41 loss to King's

BROOKLYN – The Pratt Institute men's basketball team was unable to overcome a cold shooting night, ultimately falling to the Lions of King's College in the ARC by a score of 48-41.

"I think our offense manufactures some really good looks, but the ball just didn't go in for us tonight," head coach Max Sass commented following the game. "Shooting can hide a lot of blemishes but unfortunately it didn't do that tonight. However, defensively, we held a very strong King's team to 48 points. We worked on this game plan and this team executed it to a tee."

For the game, Pratt shot 27.3 percent (15-55) from the field, including just 2-22 from three.

In what was a tightly-contested first half, both teams traded buckets, with neither able to gain a sizable lead. Following a Tytus Millikan layup that made it 13-11 in favor of the Cannoneers at 11:39 in the first half, Pratt's offense went cold as their missed opportunities held them scoreless for the next seven minutes. However, a strong defensive strategy allowed Pratt to be down by just two points with four minutes remaining in the opening stanza. At the break, King's held a narrow 23-20 advantage.

As was the case in the first half, the second 20 minutes was a low-scoring affair. With just over 11 minutes to play, an Andrew Yaglenski driving layup cut the deficit to one, 33-32. Following a King's timeout, would go on a 5-0 run that consumed nearly five minutes off the clock. Akil Philip's jump shot with two minutes remaining cut the lead to 42-35, but the visiting Lions would ice the game at the line and escape with the 48-41 victory.

For the Cannoneers Akil Philip posted his fifth double-double of the season, tallying 10 points and 16 rebounds, while Andrew Yaglenski contributed 14 points in defeat.

UP NEXT – The Cannoneers travel to Bronxville, NY to face the Gryphons of Sarah Lawrence on Sunday, December 10. A 3:00 pm tipoff is scheduled.
