Men's Volleyball opens 2017 season with a pair of 3-0 wins

BRONXVILLE, NY -- Pratt Institute men's volleyball team opened their 2017 campaign with a pair of 3-0 victories over Sarah Lawrence College and Dean College in a Saturday Afternoon doubleheader in Westchester.

Match 1 | Pratt 3, Sarah Lawrence 0: Freshman Dean Liaw opened his collegiate career by leading the Cannoneers with 20 kills on 36 attempts while registering a .472 hitting percentage, as Pratt beat the host Gryphons 25-14, 25-21, 25-18. David Cutler set a career-high with 22 assists and Andreas Haji-Georgi added 11 digs to go along with five kills. As a team, Pratt hit .304, including an amazing .500 in their first set, a 25-14 win, while limiting Sarah Lawrence to a .119 attack.

The Gryphons were led by Callan Moore's team-high eight kills, while Ithai Diakov tallied 15 assists and Harris Silcott notched eight digs for the hosts.   

Match 2 | Pratt 3, Dean College 0: As was the case with Sarah Lawrence, Pratt registered a 3-0 win over Dean College (25-17, 25-14, 25-21) to sweep the tri-match. 

Dean Liaw again led the Cannoneers with eight kills, and Kristopher Patton added nine digs. David Cutler recorded 13 assists and set another career-high, this time serving 11 aces, as Pratt moved to 2-0 on the season. 

Pratt's dominant hitting percentage continued in the second game, as the team registered a .316 in the first set. The team cooled off for the rest of the game, yet still managed to out-hit the Bulldogs .178 to .141 over the three sets.

Moussa Seck led Dean College with nine kills while finishing with two blocks. Gabriel McClain added 15 assists and Pepe Vieira finished with a team-high 8 digs.

Pratt returns to action next Saturday as the travel to Newton, MA for a doubleheader, playing Dean College at 12:00 pm and host Mount Ida College at 2:00 pm.
